There's No Such Thing As "Ready."
“It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you’re ready. I have this feeling that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now.”
There’s no such thing as being 100% ready.
Making sure you’re financially steady, emotionally equipped, and mentally prepared for your next adventure are all important boxes to tick before your next big step, however, no one has everything all figured out and perfectly in place before doing so. Having a baby, moving, and going for a dream job are major checkpoints in life where the question “Am I ready?” is extremely common.
So, how do you know if you’re “ready” if there’s no such thing as “ready?”
Here’s my advice:
When you begin to feel the slightest bit more excited than scared about your next big step, that, my friends, is when you go for it.
Before starting Praxis, a college alternative apprenticeship program, I was a sophomore in college. I found myself struggling in that type of learning environment and I felt as if I was wasting all of my money on classes where I wasn’t even learning what I was interested in.
Finishing my degree would have been the safe thing to do, but I was so unhappy and found myself constantly trying to figure out an alternative plan.
I knew that dropping out was what I wanted to do, but for the longest time, I was too afraid to take that step. I felt I wasn’t “ready” for such a commitment.
Even with my anxious and uneasy feelings, after I sent in my application for Praxis, I felt as light as a feather.
When speaking of dropping out, I only felt pure excitement.
Taking that leap of faith lead me to the beginning to finding myself.
Of course, this was a risk, but what if I never took it?
Where would I be right now?
Life is short.
To hell with playing it safe.
